Group B - Germany

Matt Bass

Germany

Whenever Germany enter a football tournament, they are a good chance to win the whole thing, that has now essentially become a fact whether anybody likes it or not. After a desperately disappointing performance from the German men in 2018, the Women’s team will look to pick up the slack and become champions of the world for the third time this century.

Not many will doubt them either, with an incredible squad full of excellent home-grown talent, arguably the only doubt one could have would be their former talent who they will not bring to France. Celia Sasic and Nadine Angerer were both legends of German football when they retired after the 2015 World Cup whilst still on top of their games and the quality of both at either end of the pitch (front and back respectively) will be sorely missed. However, the Frauen Bundesliga continues to churn out superb talent every single year and despite crucial losses to tournament hosts France and world number one USA in 2018, Germany will consider themselves a huge chance to come away from this tournament with the goods.

PREDICTION: Group: 1st Overall: Runners Up

Fact: Germany are one of two unquestionable powerhouses in women’s football, with either them or the USA being ranked first in the FIFA world rankings since 2004.
