Brazil

The Brazilian national women’s team at their very best are unstoppable and could very well win this World Cup. Unfortunately, Brazil’s experienced squad of superstars are prone to having the occasional meltdown at big tournaments. Calling Brazil’s form at international tournaments mediocre seems harsh, they do have multiple top four finishes in prior World Cups and Olympics after all. Nonetheless the amount of raw ability and skill that the Selecao have at their disposal should be enough to challenge for the title in France. However, their recent form is nothing short of horrendous and they could not even buy a win the way they’ve been playing, recently scoring their 8th and 9th losses in a row against Spain and Scotland respectively.

The Brazilians will play the Reggae Galz in their first game which should ease them into the tournament with a victory, however the Jamaicans will look to frustrate their more experienced counterparts early. From there it’s the Matildas and the Italians, the former of which Brazil have had a superb rivalry with over the past three years and the latter who Brazil have only victories against. Can the Selecao overcome all the difficulties in front of them in order to claim their first ever international trophy?

PREDICTION: Group: 3rd Overall: Round of 16

Fact: Since a meeting at the Olympics in 2016 where Brazil defeated the Matildas after a penalty shootout, the Brazilians have lost all four of their games against the Aussie side. In this same time period, Sam Kerr scored five goals against the Selecao, so expect the Aussie captain to receive some extra attention from the hardened Brazilian defence.
