Jamaica
Let’s get the negatives out of the way first: Jamaica have likely the least chance of any team in this World Cup of gaining results and proceeding to the knockout stages in France. The quality of the nations in their group will likely be too much to bear. With all that in mind, The Reggae Galz have fought harder than any other squad coming into this tournament, for the rights and freedom that many of us take for granted.
With that said, there is more fight to come from the Jamaicans and the Matildas, Italians and Brazilians respectively will certainly be careful not to take this team lightly. Some promising results in recent fixtures will surely instil hope in the Jamaican team and the enthusiasm of a first tournament may carry them somewhat. Whilst Jamaica seem to have no trouble scoring goals, they need to sure up there defence after conceding the lead twice against Panama before requiring penalties to win in their final World Cup qualifier. Whether or not Jamaica can make a splash in this tournament will simply be defined by whether they can score more goals than their class opponents; something that reads so simple but will prove to be the harshest challenge in Jamaican football history.
PREDICTION: Group: 4th Overall: Out
Fact: If Jamaica were slightly more proactive (and lucky) they may have been able to secure the services of the often praised and well decorated Canadian defender Kadeisha Buchanan. With both of her parents born and raised in the Caribbean nation, Buchanan decided to pledge her allegiance to Canada to the detriment of the Reggae Galz. Perhaps the Jamaicans can call upon one of her 11 siblings, all of which would be eligible due to their parent’s birthplace.
