Argentina
After having the pleasure of watching Argentina live on a warm summer afternoon at the picturesque Leichhardt oval, one thing is unfortunately clear: they’re in trouble. Drawn in an extremely tough group, Argentina’s lack of structure and defensive know how will be extremely detrimental to their chance at progression through the World Cup. However they have some time to work on these issues and their attacking quality and individual flair is not to be taken lightly, with many of their attackers showing unquestioned class against Korea. If they manage to pull off a surprise result against a superbly consistent Japan outfit or the in-form English women’s team then a final round fixture against Scotland could become a huge game for the Albicelestes.
PREDICTION: Group: 4th Overall: Out
Fact: Argentina recently had a run of friendlies against American Colleges and high schools, during which they actually lost 1-0 to the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). My talented sister Alisha, who was a junior Matilda before embarking on a fruitful American College career at the University of Wyoming, actually enjoyed a vicious rivalry with UNLV over the years. Whilst the Albicelestes failed to break down the fierce Rebels, the Wyoming Cowgirls actually defeated their rivals twice, where my sister managed to score on both occasions. An excellent leader and superb footballer whose career I’ve followed religiously, I would be remised not to mention her name in this celebration of women’s football, especially since she is the main reason this whole document exists. Love you Sis!
