Sweden
The Swedish National Team have been hard done by not tasting World Cup success over the years and may feel like 2019 is their year. Perennial podium finishers, third place and runners up medals have been the Swedes fate for years in the Olympics, European Championships and World Cups.
With that said, Sweden are a dangerous team primed for this tournament, fresh off an excellent qualifying campaign where they had a flawless record besides a slip up away against Ukraine. With this record, it’s hard to write Sweden off as contenders, especially combined with their unmatched physicality and their quick and direct build up play. A recent loss to Germany will not improve their confidence although they did manage to defeat Austria in the same run of friendlies in early April. However if they fall to the USA in their group then the mountainous task to reach the final might just be too tough to climb.
PREDICTION: Group: 2nd Overall: Quarter Final
Fact: Sweden must be wondering whose number you’ve got to call at FIFA to enquire about the World Cup draw. Miraculously, for the fifth time in a row (!!!) Sweden have drawn the United States of America in their group. FIFTH TIME! Now it’s been a while since I did probability at school but even I know that those odds do not add up. Not that I’m suggesting foul play at all, this is just a good old fashioned case of awful luck.
